Sylvia Phaphali Adzitey is a registered nurse at the Tamale Teaching Hospital in Ghana, deeply
passionate about cardiovascular health and the prevention of non-communicable diseases. She is
currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Nursing, where her research focuses on developing
best practice guidelines to equip nurses in providing hypertension self-management support in
Ghana.
In recognition of her excellence in nursing practice, Sylvia was adjudged the Best Nurse for the
Northern Region of Ghana in 2020. In 2023, she was selected as a Mandela Washington Fellow
and completed her fellowship at the University of Minnesota, USA.
Sylvia has collaborated with various organizations to extend healthcare services to underserved
and rural communities in Ghana, underscoring her commitment to equitable healthcare access for
all. She has also designed and facilitated capacity-building programmes for nurses, particularly
those working in primary healthcare settings, to strengthen their competencies in hypertension
management and patient education.
Sylvia is deeply committed to mentoring and coaching young nurses, guiding them in
professional development and career advancement. She currently serves as the Co-Lead for
Professional Development and Advocacy for the Ghanaian-Diaspora Nursing Alliance, Ghana
Chapter.
